Glamorous Glass Residential Wine Cellars in a Dining Area

May 8, 2026

Having residential wine cellars adds sophistication and elegance to the space and reflects your refined wine taste. It can serve as an icebreaker and create a visually stunning focal point.

Moreover, a well-curated wine collection can take your dining experience to the next level and provide opportunities for wine-tasting and pairing sessions with your guests.

Cachet Wine Cellar’s modern glass wine cellar project perfectly exemplifies how finesse and elegance can be blended to create a beautiful wine display in any home.

Let’s take a look at this awesome wine cellar installation in California!

Residential Wine Cellars: An Attraction In Interior Display

The client approached Cachet Wine Cellar, known for their expertise in wine construction, to create a modern glass wine cellar in the dining room of their California residence.

The project presented several challenges that the team had to overcome. Still, they did so by finding practical solutions and transforming the traditional dining room into a modern wine display masterpiece. The client was overjoyed and satisfied with the completed project.

Before beginning the project, the team had to remove a post and bar counter from the designated area for the glass wine room. Despite the limited space, the team accomplished the project, demonstrating their commitment to providing innovative and practical solutions to their clients.

Here’s a Quick Residential Wine Cellar Tour by Our Head Expert:

The wine wall design had a three-bottle deep rack with movable glass panels on the front, while the back had one-bottle deep racks. The glass used for the project was frameless, made of a single pane.

A U-channel was used to reinforce the glass panels, and insulation materials were added within the U-channel to improve insulation for the modern glass wine cellar.

The wine cellar had two fixed, frameless glass panels installed on the back and four movable glass panels for the front and accessible side. The doors had a clearance of around 148 inches by 96 inches.

The limited workspace presented a challenge for the Our

The limited workspace presented a challenge for the installation of the cooling system. To address this issue, the team partnered with Dan from US Cellar Systems to develop a custom cooling system that could fit in the dining area of the residential space. The team installed an LPQ 12000 TE Split Cooling System supplied by US Cellar Systems.

This cooling unit has a capacity of 12,000 BTUs and 1 ½ horsepower, effectively improving the insulation capabilities of the glass wine cellar. To maintain a clean and aesthetically pleasing appearance, the team decided to conceal the cooling unit within the soffit, ensuring that wires and coils were not visible.

The team also used spray foam with a vapor barrier to fill gaps in the cellar’s U-channel and soffit, insulating and protecting the entire cellar from sudden temperature changes outside.

Applying spray foam eliminates the risk of unchecked humidity and temperature fluctuations that can damage your wine collection. California experiences temperatures ranging from 105°F in June to August to 23°F in December to February annually, making it essential to have proper insulation to protect your wine collection.

We have installed LED cans throughout the wine cellar to highlight the wine collection. These LED lights are carefully positioned to enhance the beauty of the wine display.

Moreover, LED lights do not emit harmful ultraviolet rays that can damage your wine collection. Instead, they provide ample illumination without affecting the wine’s storage life, ensuring that your wines remain fresh and aromatic for a long time. Our Cachet Wine Cellarexperts use LED lights in all our projects to ensure our clients’ wine collections remain protected and well-preserved.

A Stylish, Eco-Friendly Approach to Flooring

Going onto the floors – not all wine cellars redo their flooring. Some may add an extra layer of insulation, but the materials that cover it remain. To differentiate this wine cellar further from the adjacent room, we decided to go with a different shade of wood.

We repurposed wine barrels, particularly the staves, flattened and resurfaced them, and brought them in to line the floor. You can still see the stave marks on some of the planks, and they provided extra character to the room!

Contemporary Wine Racking Design: A Mix of Different Materials

This extra under-the-stairs wine room features five walls. Because we wanted to maximize the small space a little, we built custom wine racks on all sides — but of course, with a twist!

We combined different types of racks to add flavor to the display and they’re all made up of either wood or metal!

Wooden Wine Racks for Modern Wine Cellars

Wooden racks are not only for traditional wine cellars; they also look good in modern wine cellars too! In this wine room, we installed four separate wooden wine racks, with each occupying one wall of the room.
